Frequently asked questions
How many free compressions do I get?
Three in total. It is a one-time trial allowance for the lifetime of the install, not three per day. Selecting a video, changing settings, cancelling a compression, or a compression that fails all cost nothing — a compression is only counted once it finishes successfully.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a single purchase that unlocks the app permanently. It does not renew and there is nothing to cancel.
I bought Pro but the app still shows the free version.
Open Settings → Pro → Restore Purchases, or tap Restore Purchases on the Pro screen. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. This is also how you unlock Pro on a second device.
Where do my videos go?
Nowhere. Every video is processed on your device. The app has no server and no network code — you can put your iPhone in Airplane Mode and it still works end to end. Your original video is never modified; the app works on a temporary copy and deletes it when you are done.
I asked for 25 MB and got 26.4 MB. Why?
Video encoders cannot hit an exact file size. The app calculates a bitrate for your target and runs a correcting second pass if the first result overshoots, which normally lands within about 15% of what you asked for. Sizes shown before you start are labelled as estimates for this reason.
The app says my video is too long.
Videos over three hours are refused up front, because compressing them on device is not reliable. Trim the clip in the Photos app first, then compress it.
Saving to Photos does not work.
iOS needs permission to add videos to your library. Go to Settings → Video Compressor → Photos and allow adding. You can always use Share instead of Save — that needs no permission at all.
The compressed file is not smaller than the original.
Some videos are already efficiently compressed, so re-encoding them cannot help. The app tells you when this happens and leaves your original untouched.
Which videos are supported?
4K and 60 fps, HDR, HEVC and H.264, portrait and landscape, slow motion and time-lapse, and clips with no audio. Orientation is always preserved and videos are never upscaled.
